On Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, a group of us went to the Children's Museum of the Arts.
The Monday group had an opportunity to participate in a craft workshop where we used different materials to make boats. We also got a chance to go to the swirl studio where we could sit on fun chairs and spin in circles. It was a great opportunity to take turns and be flexible and everyone had so much fun being creative.
Tuesday’s group made sure to be aware of our social skills like following directions, being aware of our surroundings, respecting each other’s personal space, and thinking about the perspectives of others. We got the chance to do a lot of pretend play activities like grocery store and pirate ship.
Friday’s group reviewed the importance of whole body listening and asking questions or making comments to keep the conversation going before heading to the museum. When we got to the museum, we had the opportunity to explore different workshops and we practiced flexibility if we didn't get to go to the activity we wanted. We had so much fun participating in the clay workshop, animation station, swirly chairs and maze, or reading together in the quiet space.
We also had another trip on Tuesday and Thursday! We went to Numero 28 Pizzeria. Everyone loved eating pizza and dessert and later we got to play Hedbanz as a group. Being at the table together allowed us to remember to use eye contact when speaking to the waiter, flexible thinking skills when looking at the menu, and maintaining an appropriate volume and tone when ordering.
All the trips were so much fun and we enjoyed it just as much as the kids :)
It's been a pleasure teaching your kids this semester and we can't wait for what the next semester has in store for us!
